Sometime during this spring, whilst walking in my neighbourhood I became aware of the lights that light the pathway, linking Lesnes Abbey ruins to Southmere Lake in the county of Bexley, southeast London.
The thing that struck me most about them was how they were often glowing during bright daylight hours. Mostly set against a clear blue sky, I found them captivating. There was something both endearing and ironic somehow, in the way their bright-white bulbs shone against a clear blue sky. Following a few more encounters with these gangly structures I was inspired to make a series of images.
The images were created over several walks with my camera, covering around two thirds of a mile along the walkway each time. Once I reflected on the images together, I felt they were more successful as a set when there was little distraction in the background.
And now for some fun! For Christmas I am going to kick off an Advent count-down picture sale which will operate like this:
Starting 1st December 2022 I will release a limited edition run of 25 images called ‘The Dance Of The Lights’. One image from the edition will be available to purchase each day. They will go up in price by one pound more than the previous day’s price each time, like so:
1st December £50
2nd December £51
14th December £63
25th December £75
This will continue up to and including Christmas Day, so there are 25 chances to buy a print! Any monies taken above £50 on any day will be added to the charity pot, which has the potential to raise £300 for charity. The last purchaser up to and including Christmas day will get to choose which Charity any raised funds will go to.
Each print will come with a signed Certificate of Authentication, and will incur a postage charge on top depending on where you live. If you place your orders quick enough you might be able to give a print as a Christmas gift!
From 26th December onwards any prints left from this edition will be on general sale at £75 each.
